Bluesky Pie Records presents BOTB 2020 – HEAT 1

It was a packed out event at the Harp Restrung on Friday 31st January 2020 in Heat 1 of Bluesky Pie’s BOTB. Four bands took to the stage for 30 minute sets. The excellent sound team headed by Dougal changed over the bands seamlessly.

First up was Extra Ordinary from Folkestone. Playing to fans on their own turf. Poetic vibes are at the foreground of the energy produced by this band. Funky bass lines and hard hitting rhythms hold together some deep lyrics that talk about reflection, self value and self confidence.

Extra Ordinary

Almost Always are a 6 piece pop punk band from London. They are gigging regularly and are great musicians. Lead vocalist Vanessa Borrini belted out the tunes. She has an amazing voice! The judges loved their soaring vocals, catchy melodies, heavy guitar riffs and their energy.

Renegade from Kent put on a fantastic show. They are a heavy rock band with influences from Queen, Led Zeppelin and Royal Blood. Gaby George, lead vocalist has a strong look and a voice to match. Lead guitarist Max Raven treated us to a fabulous guitar solo. They blew the audience and judges away.

Snipit and the Hotrocks from Brighton are a ‘ever growing bunch of festival ragamuffins looking to get you up on your feet and dancing to some funky reggae tunes’. That is their description and they lived up to it. From their catchy first song, “You don’t know the words so you can’t sing along, because this is the soundcheck, soundcheck” was funny and soon everyone was at the front dancing along to their tracks. It was a great end to the night.
