#NewMusic2018: Kavanagh

Kavanagh are piece alt-rock band from Canterbury, and are featuring on our #NewMusic2018 album. They play 90s stoner grunge with poetic punk undertones, and bluesy riffs for one hell of a live performance. Winners of Dreamland in Margate’s national Battle of the Band’s competition, Kavanagh are one to watch.

How long have you been making music?
We’ve been together as a band for about 3 years now, but I’d say only about a year and a half of that has been making actual ‘music’, as before that was just a lot of weird noise with us trying to pin down a sound.

How would you describe your sound?
There’s all sorts of elements thrown in. We like to think we’re classic Stonesy rock and roll, but there’s blues elements in lots of the riffs and rhythms, quite a poetic Doors feel to some of the lyrics ,and lots of 90s style stoner grunge,

What’s the best gig you have ever played?
The best gig we’ve ever played is a hard one, as there’s always different reasons for loving a gig! We’d have to say Dreamland battle of the bands final, as we played on a massive stage and won a national competition!

What are your musical plans for 2018?
We’ve got loads of musical plans for 2018. The main of which is going to be pushing our newly released debut EP, MTTP, as well as securing some festival slots around the country, and hopefully a few decent support slots for some touring bands. We just want to elevate the band name to the next level following this EP.
